Baby Dedication

A commitment by parents before God and the Church

Biblical Foundation

Baby dedication is a public commitment by parents to raise their child according to the Word of God. The biblical foundation for this practice can be found in several scriptures including 1 Samuel 1:27–28, where Hannah dedicates Samuel to the Lord; Proverbs 22:6, which instructs parents to train a child in the way they should go; and Luke 2:22, where Jesus is presented at the temple. Baby dedication is not baptism, but a solemn commitment made by parents before God and the congregation to raise their child in faith and obedience to God’s Word.
